If you have the desire and the drive to improve your overall health, the rest is easy because anyone can learn how to heal themselves with our help. Debey will open your eyes to the fact that you do have the power to improve your quality of life if you make a few changes to your lifestyle.
We have been programmed through media and the such to eat what is called “The Standard American Diet” (SAD)”. This is an extremely unhealthy diet rich in red meat and unclean animal fat, dairy products, processed and artificially sweetened foods and high salts. However, we barely consume healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, fish, legumes and whole grains. The typical American diet is about 40% carbohydrates, 25% protein and 35% fat and this combination can contribute to brain, memory and neurological issues. (Too much good and healthy protein can also be toxic without a healthy microbiome to break it down to amino acids and carry away the ammonia byproduct).
It’s no surprise that we are sick because we are obese and obese because we are sick due to many reasons including the accumulation of toxins- cycling and recycling around our entire body! Following the SAD diet will lead to an increased chronic disease risk including chronic heart and kidney disease. Our organs are suffering because we can’t filter the waste out that we are accumulating through the breakdown of these processed and unhealthy foods.
We need to learn the correct way to feed and nourish our body as a lifestyle without huge assumptions and without following “fad diets” that cause us to crash and burn the moment our will-power gets low. We need to eat whole food, plant-based foods that contain fiber (non-digestible carbohydrates) that our bodies allow to pass right on through to feed and nurture our gut microbiome. These fibers can be fermented by the microbiome in your Digestive Tract- these are the potentially helpful organisms that can help us break down and filter out our waste products instead of continuing the potentially deadly cycle. Then, in return, they can help us break down and assimilate our nutrients from the food we eat. Their long and short chain fatty acid helpful byproducts can be fermented to produce enough glucose for our body’s needs and healthy brain function.
Through HealThy Self, a weekly class, Debey will show you how to choose a healthy diet, but also teach you how to take care of, move and rest your body, so that the body can begin to heal itself. A new topic is chosen each week and once a month, we will host a special guest speaker. We have had other topics in the past like “Eat Fat Get Thin” displaying evidence for the body’s need for dietary fats instead of carbohydrates, and “Your Body’s Cry for Water” which discusses how the lack of hydration leads to physical and mental illness.
These are some of the things that you will learn with Heal Thy Self:
- Remember that you have the power to improve your overall health and happiness.
